About

The Committee of Bank Supervisors of West and Central Africa (CBSWSA) was created in Accra (GHANA) in April 1994 during an inaugural session attended by the Central African Banking Commission, the Banking Commission of the West African Monetary Union, the Central Bank of Congo, the Central Bank of Gambia, the Central Bank of Ghana, the Central Bank of Madagascar, the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Central Bank of Sierra Leone.

Today, the CBSWSA brings together nine (9) central banks and two (2) supervisory authorities representing 23 countries:

  • Bank of the Republic of Burundi
  • Central Bank of The Gambia
  • Bank of Ghana
  • Central Bank of Liberia
  • Central Bank of Nigeria
  • Bank of Sierra Leone
  • Central Bank of Sudan
  • Central Bank of Congo
  • Banking Commission of Central Africa (Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and Chad)
  • Banking Commission of the West African Monetary Union (Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo) 

In addition to these eleven (11) members, the Committee also includes three (3) observer members: 

  • the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI),
  • the Nigeria Deposit Guarantee Fund (NDIC)
  • the Central Africa Deposit Guarantee Fund (FOGADAC). 

The organs of the CBSWSA are:

  • the Assembly
  • the Presidency
  • the Permanent Secretariat
